The television show I decided to choose was The Middle on ABC. The family on the show consists of a mother, a father, an older brother, a middle sister, and a younger brother. The family type is nuclear. I believe the show portrays a modern family perfectly. There are many times I have watched it with my mom or sisters and it is something that we can relate to. Sometimes my grandma will call my mom up and tell her she has to watch it because it has to do with something we have done or it reminds her of us. Everyone in my family enjoys the show.
I believe that it is a patriarchy family. The mother is in charge sometimes but the fathers always ends up have the last word. In the end it is all up to the father. In the episode I watched they showed how one kid always ends up getting the "the shorter end of the stick". They took the oldest son out one day, then the daughter the next day, and on the last day they were going to take the younger son out but ended up running errands with him because they were too busy with the other kids so they we're tired and worn out. I always have watched other episodes that most families can relate too.

Media vs Real Life Crime Stoppers & Privatization of Prisons Blog #6
I think that in Blue Bloods things are more dramatized and that when the cop brings the guy over and threatens to shoot him is for tv and wouldn't happen in real life. A cop knows not to do that and that they have a strict code of conduct to abide to. In COPS you see how the officers talk to the people to try to get them to tell the truth so they feel "safe." I think that private prisons are not exactly a bad thing if they are run the way they are supposed to be. I personally would never want to own a prison because there are so many aspects to a prison you would have to worry about and people escaping and many other potential problems that could happen at any mpment. A prison isn't a 9-5 job, a prison in active 24/7 no matter what, no weekends, no holidays, nothing. I think private prisons could have a positive effect on the economy if run correctly.

Radio
In the beginning Radio does not know how to act around other people because he never really socialized with people other than his family. When he first begins to socialize he is confused and very shy. After socializing for a while he becomes a better version of himself, he is very happy and makes others around him happy. He learns about what is right and what s wrong. The town helped him grow as a person and he helped the people grow too in a different way.
I thought at first the football team was horrible and should have been punished even more for waht they did to Radio but as the movie goes on you see that they realize waht they did was wrong and regret and learn to love Radio as they learn more about him and he socializes. I think the town treated Radio very well minus a few people liek the father of the football player and the one police officer. I think Coach Jones was an amazing person for taking care of Radio and acting as a role model too him and taking care of him when his mother was too busy too.

You As A Sociologist
I think that if a person will obey authority no matter what depends on the person. If the person is self consious and a 'weak' person they will listen to authority no matter what because they don't want to do anything 'wrong.' If a person is confident and will stand up for themselves they will not listen and stand up for what they think is right.
I would consider myself an interactionist because I would want to study individual people and societies to see why people act the way they so and waht different symbols mean to people.

September 11th
When I think about September 11th I think about all the innocent men, women and children that died that day. I think about the firemen, police officers, and other people who went into the building to save people not knowing if they themselves would make it out alive. I think about the people who were stuck in the building not knowing what was going on or if anyone was coming to save them. I think about what must have been going through the people's minds who jumped from the building deciding to take their own lives instead of waiting to see what would happen. I think about the people who were running late to work or called in sick who could've been there that day. I think about all the people that did survive and how they live after seeing everything they saw and in some cases losing loved ones. I think about the children who are alive today without parent, aunts, uncles, grandparents, siblings, or other family members. I think about how you could see or talk to someone not knowing that was the last time you would ever see or talk to them again.
Introductory
This year I am a senior, one of the most exciting and busy years of high school. I have to narrow down the colleges I want to apply to and write my college essays and fill out applications. I also have to figure out what I want to major in because I want to become a teacher but can't major in education so I have to look into different majors and find out what major will benefit me the most. I am also planning on finishing my Gold Award for Girl Scouts. I am most likely going collecting school supplies for childrenwhose families cannot afford them I ma excited for senior year and all the things that will happen throughout the year!
#4 Election 2012 & Political Thoughts
1.)I am not sure which political party I would be part of because I am not sure how i feel about certain topics and don't know much about politics.
2.) I think that health care for all Americans would be a positive thing. Some people can not afford health insurance or to go see a doctor so this will help and save many people.
3.) I am pro-life but I also believe it depends on the situation. If a women becomes pregnant as an effect of rape I think se should be able to get an abortion if she wishes to do so. Also if being pregnant will cause the mother to become clearly sick or can cause her to pass away because her body can not handle it an abortion would be appropriate. Another situation is if doctors can tell there is something wrong with the baby and the baby will suffer and it is in the best interest of the baby so it would not suffer than an abortion would be appropriate.
4.) I do not think America should say who can marry who and the rights they receive. Who somebody falls in love with shouldn't determine the rights they get as a citizen.
